INSIGHT INTO 12th ANNUAL ROUND TABLE CAR RALLY
Bind Men's Car Rally has always been "the event" of the year for Ahmedabad Round Table # 40 and so was the case this year.
This was the 12th year in succession and was all the more special as it was to be the 200th Birth Anniversary of Louis Braille. It was organized in association with Blind Peoples Association and under the guise of The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. |

 Unique aspect
This year 5 cars were fitted with GPS units and were tracked live over the internet. One of them was on the car driven by CAR MAGAZINE correspondents. This allowed a huge number of people to participate in the car rally and follow up the action of their favorite driver even without leaving their home.
We also had one blind navigator navigate the entire car rally using a mobile phone. The driver connected his mobile phone to the Bluetooth of his audio system and could listen in to the instructions being given out by the blind navigator sitting in at our flag off location instead of in the car. This experiment was quite surprisingly successful as the driver came in 3rd Overall. Not only did this provide an opportunity for the people present at the venue to enjoy and experience the car rally, it helped promote the cause that blind are employable in a lot of ventures.
Most of the cars returned back after successfully completing the rally in under 3 hours (Pic 35-39) Everyone was vying for this amazing JCB trophy! (pic 40) Top 10 participants were given six months free subscription by CAR magazine and Braille watches to the blind navigators by TITAN industries. |
